TRANSPORT DATA FOR SELECTED AFRICAN COUNTRIES

By

S. KAREKEZI & KIMANI

Introduction

This working paper is a presentation of key transport data of the transport sector in selected African countries.  In Africa as it is in the rest of the developing world, the transport sector consumes the largest portion of the petroleum products, most of which are imported (Baguant and Teferra, 1996).

This data was largely sourced from country reports of AFREPREN/FWDs Climate Change and Transport Theme Group, Regional Surveys of the World South of the Sahara, country profiles and CIA fact books from the CIA website.  Most of the countries covered are in Eastern and Southern Africa.  For most of the countries a range of three years data is presented both in spreadsheet format as well as graphs.

This working paper is part of an on-going effort by AFREPREN/FWD to compile an accessible energy  database for Eastern and Southern African countries.
