Executive Summary

In line with the recommendation of the 1999 AFREPREN/FWD General Assembly, the primary objective of the Special Studies of Strategic Significance Theme Group is to identify and assess new and emerging issues that are likely to have important implications to the energy sector of selected African countries.

With the assistance of its principal donor Sida, AFREPREN/FWD plan to finance twenty-one (21) studies for the year 2000-2002 Programme. While the duration of the studies will depend on the specifics of the study proposal as well as the topic and the range of issues to be researched on, the studies are expected to be carried out over a period of about 3 to 6 months.
