Researchers in the Energy Sector Reform Theme Group Uganda Country Team
AFREPREN/FWD Principal Researcher, Member, Power Sector Reform Team, Utility Reform Unit, Ministry of Finance, Planning & Economic Development, Uganda.
Mr. Simon Peter Engurait holds an MBA Degree from Maastricht School of Management, The Netherlands and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Makerere University, Uganda. He has worked with the Enterprise Development Project, and Public Enterprise Reform and Divestiture Unit of the Ministry of Finance, Uganda. He is currently a member of the power sector reform team in the Utility Reform Unit, Ministry of Finance. He has participated extensively in power sector divestiture and reforms in Uganda. He is a principal researcher in AFREPREN/FWD’s Energy Sector Reform Theme Group. Research Assistant
Zimbabwe Country Team
AFREPREN/FWD Principal Researcher, Chief Business Planner, Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority, Zimbabwe.
Mrs. Kayo holds an MBA and a BSc in Economics from the University of Zimbabwe. She has undergone training in Leadership for Development from LEAD international. She is the Chief Business Planner at the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA), where she previously held the position of Strategic and Business Planner. She has also attended many courses on management, project planning, policy, strategic marketing and advanced power sector management. She has worked as an administrative assistant, senior administrative officer and assistant secretary in the Department of Energy. She has contributed to several major publications among them the Rural Electrification Masterplan for Zimbabwe. Research Assistants
Ethiopia Country Team
AFREPREN/FWD Principal Researcher, Head, Department of Mines, Energy and Water Resources Development, Ministry of Economic Development and Cooperation, Ethiopia.
Mr. Mengistu Teferra holds an MSc.
Degree in Energy Studies from the University of Sussex, UK, a BSc. Degree in
Electrical Engineering from the University of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and a
Diploma in Electricity Distribution from the University of Trondheim, Norway. Previous posts he has held include:
Mr. Teferra, a leading Ethiopian energy analyst, has authored numerous influential reports and publications on the energy and transport sector of Ethiopia. He is a principal researcher with AFREPREN/FWD’s Energy Sector Reform Theme Group.
Malawi Country Team
Ms. Margaret Matinga, AFREPREN/FWD Principal Researcher, Trainee Engineer, Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi, Malawi. Ms. Matinga holds an MSc in Energy Studies, a BSc. and a diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Malawi. She has worked as a research assistant for the Malawi Industrial Research and Technology Development Centre, where she was involved with renewable energy performance, efficiency analysis and environmental impact assessment. She has also worked as a technology assistant for the Malawi Entrepreneurs Trust with duties of, among others, project proposal writing, budgeting for donor-funded projects, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of UNDP/Government of Malawi EDEP projects. She has also worked as a field-supervising officer for Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief and as a volunteer to World Vision Malawi and several hospitals. Research Assistants
South Africa Country Team
Ms. Mankone Ntsaba, AFREPREN/FWD Principal Researcher, Private Researcher , South Africa. Ms. Ntsaba holds a BSc. Degree in Geography & Biology from the National University of Lesotho and a MSc.(Hons) as well as a BSc. in Geography from Rhodes University. She is a Researcher in Forestek CSIR. She has authored publications on capacity building in the power sector of South Africa and environmental perception management strategy for Engen, a petroleum company. She has professional skills in scoping and public participation methodologies, environmental impact assessments and benchmarking studies, research and report writing. Research Assistants
Tanzania Country Team
Dr. Edward Marandu, AFREPREN/FWD Principal Researcher, Head of Department, Marketing Department, Faculty of Business, University of Botswana. Dr. Marandu is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing at the University of Botswana. He holds a B.A. from the University of Dar-Es-Salaam, an M.B.A. from Arizona State University, and PhD from University College Dublin, Ireland. Formerly, he taught marketing at the University of Dar-es-Salaam and has held a visiting position at University College Dublin. He has been consultant to several businesses in Ireland, Tanzania, and Botswana as well as to the International Trade Centre. His research interest is in business performance, economic reforms, customer satisfaction and international business analysis. He has authored several publications in these areas as well as on marketing in general. Research Assistant
